I threw a baby shower for my sister last weekend. She’s due in about a month and she’s having a little girl! My mom sent a bunch of decorations from the shower she threw in Arizona, so I decided to use those so everything would match. She even included some ribbon that matched the whole ensemble. I decided that the ribbon would be the perfect accent to a double-layer cake. I’d been wanting to try fondant for a while, so I looked up a recipe online and gave it a shot. Here is the finished product:
There were a few wrinkles across the top. I decided to roll the fondant between two sheets of wax paper and rolled it backwards on a rolling pin to transfer it to the cake. This worked really well, except that it put wrinkles in the fondant. I’ll have to play around with that more and figure out how to make it completely smooth. I think it turned out pretty good, though, for my first try. Nathan was impressed. :)

Kaisa took dance at the Orem Fitness Center again this summer. She even got to have her neighbor and friend, Eliza, in class with her! And to make it even better, Eliza’s grandpa offered to take the girls to class. I didn’t even have to leave the house! It was perfect!
Here are a few pictures from her recital. I have video too, which I’ll post on the video blog once we get it uploaded to the hard drive.
We took Kaisa out to her favorite dinner to celebrate…sushi and teppanyaki. She loves “the man in the funny hat that makes fire.” It was a fun night!

Occasionally, Harrison looks like this:
But most of the time, he looks like this:
Maybe it’s because of this:
It’s a little better when he’s in this:
And much better when he’s in this:
Yes, we’ve been dealing with major crying the last couple of months. At his 2 month appointment, the doctor suggested I try cutting milk out of my diet. I lost 2 pounds in one week and my milk supply went way down, which made it even worse. I started supplementing with formula, and that seemed to help a little. He sleeps great with only 1 or 2 night feedings, but the poor little guy is just not happy unless someone is holding him or smiling at him. This is making me think it’s more his personality than colic. I am taking him to a chiropractor for an adjustment today, so we’ll see how that goes. Apparently colic can be caused by nerve interference. Although, he shouldn’t have much nerve interference since he had such a gentle birth. If the chiropractic adjustment doesn’t change anything, I’m going to assume it’s his personality and hope he grows out of it soon. In the meantime, I wear him until my back hurts and then listen to him cry for the rest of the day. So much fun! :)
Despite the crying, we still love this little guy A LOT and when he’s happy, he’s just adorable!
