Loving the Arizona Sun

18 Dec

In light of recent information gathered from my husband that is it ridiculously cold in Utah this week (the low is supposed to be 3 degrees on Saturday…WHAT?) I am leaving this post to make all you Utahns jealous. :)

Kaisa and I flew to Arizona on Monday and have been enjoying our week here so much!  My family adores Kaisa (why wouldn’t they?) and she loves all the attention she’s getting.  She also got to meet her new cousin, baby Peyton!  I got a belated birthday giftcard to Motherhood Maternity and picked up a dress I’ve been wanting for a while but could never find in my size in Utah when it was on sale.  I opened my wallet to discover that I had a full punch card for Bahama Buck’s, and enjoyed a free shaved ice (so good)!  And we’ve been eating lots of Christmas candy (thanks mom)!*

Perhaps the best part about Arizona has been missing until today.  It rained all day here on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Unbelieveable!  A good winter storm is rare here, but the desert always needs it so I tried not to complain too much.  But fate has smiled upon me!  Alas, I am looking out my parent’s kithcen window to a beautiful blue sky and lots of SUN!  It will probably get up into the 60′s today.  YES!!!!  I can’t wait to get out there and soak it up!

So…to all you Utahns freezing your buns off…see you Saturday.  Until then, I’m warm, toasty, and loving it!

*Sorry there are no pictures of any of these events.  I forgot my camera, again. :(

WHY???

10 Dec

So, do you ever have those moments in life where you ask yourself why something is the way it is because it makes absolutely no sense?

Yesterday I took Kaisa to the library.  After sitting through storytime, I looked up the call numbers of some books I wanted to check out and we went on our way through the rows of books.  One of the books was on the second level, and being 8 months pregnant, I opted to take the elevator.  Plus, Kaisa loves to push the buttons.  This is where the fun begins.

I let Kaisa push the button to go up.  The doors open, she runs in, and before I could help her up to push the “2″ button, she had pushed that button that says “Call For Help.”  You know, the bright red one meant for emergencies.  Ever wonder what happens when that button is pushed?  Well, now I know, and I’ll tell you.

It calls the Fire Department.

So, I hear this really loud ringing (it’s coming out of a speaker in the elevator) and then a voice saying there is an emergency in the Orem City Library elevator, south wing.  I didn’t know what to do.  Do I push it again?  There is no “cancel” button.  Should I try to talk into this speaker thing?  Can they hear me?

By now, the elevator has taken us up, so I just got off and went and got my books.

We went back down the stairs. :)

Then, as I’m passing the south wing desk, I hear the librarian say into the phone, “sorry about the false alarm.”  I just walk by and pretend not to know what is going on.

So here’s my question.  WHY ON EARTH do they put the elevator emergency button at the eye level of a toddler?????  Does anyone else see the problem here???  Honestly, people, let’s use our brains.

“Want Some Of That”

9 Dec

Up until this morning, Kaisa’s phrases have consisted of no more than two words. You know, “want TV,” or “carry you” (carry me) and such. However, this morning that all changed.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

I decided I wanted Cinnamon Toast Crunch for breakfast (I know, so healthy), and after getting Kaisa a bowl of Alpha Bits I ran down to the basement to retrieve the Cinnamon Toast Crunch. After I poured my bowl, Kaisa announced that she was done and Nathan cleaned her up and got her down from the table. Kaisa promptly walked up to the counter, pointed to the Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and said “want some of that!”

We poured her a bowl and she finished the whole thing. :)

I really love this stage she is in where she is learning how to communicate better and better every day. It makes life a lot easier. And it’s cute!

iHypnobirth Is Finally Up!

8 Dec

Some of you may have heard me talk about iHypnobirth.com, a website Nathan has been working on for me. Up until today it was just a domain name and empty wordpress theme, but thanks to my wonderful husband, it is now up and running with my first post!!

I am so excited to have this blog/website to talk about my hypnobirth(s). So many people ask me about it, and I am never sure how much they really want to know or whether they are just being nice. So here is your chance…if you really want to know more about it, go to my new website! This will also be a great place for me to blog about my pregnancy/birth experiences without using our family blog. (I know some of you that read this blog would prefer not to read that stuff.) :)

Take a minute to read the “About” page the first time you visit. It gives a lot of background into the method and why I chose it.

If you have any positive (please, not negative) birth experiences you would like me to share on iHypnobirth, feel free to email me or leave me a comment.

So…without further ado…

Blog Changing Server – DreamHost Coupon Code!

4 Dec

This weekend I’ll be switching my hosting for nathanandfiona.com. So please excuse any downtime we have. Fiona will make sure I get this up again soon! Thanks to Sandy for hosting this for so long even though I had my own hosting.

I’ve already started the process and pulled by domain registration from 1and1 to DreamHost, my favorite web host.

**Beginning shameless plug, cue infomercial voice**

DreamHost is far and away the best web hosting that I’ve used OR heard about (and I’ve done a fair amount of research). It’s intuitive, easy to use, and most of all — affordable. And for you, yes you, it’s even more affordable for the first year. Use the DreamHost coupon code ‘OS40′ to save $40 of any yearly package. Hooray! But does DreamHost do monthly billing? That’s quite a chunk of change up front. Yes they do, and you can use that same code and get the $49.95 setup fee waived for month to month hosting (yearly packages have no setup fee).

Save $40 on DreamHost web hosting — Coupon Code: OS40

Hosting packages include a bunch of free and ever expanding features including:

  • one free domain for life! (com/net/org/info)
  • One Click Installs and Upgrades
  • 500 Gigs of disk storage, plus 2Gb every week!
  • 5Tb of data transfer (that’s a lot)
  • Unlimited domains hosted (that’s a lot too)
  • Funny Monthly Newsletters (I read it every month)
  • SSH access
  • Unlimited email accounts, MySQL databases
  • AND, you support the hosting for this and many other sites just by using my code, OS40!

**end shameless plug**

Seriously, I love my hosting.

If we’re friends and you still want some hosting but don’t care about a free domain and just want the special “My Awesome Uncle Nathan will totally hook me up” discount… let me know, we’ll work something out. :)

** Update ** Server changed.  Later and took longer than I wanted. It was a pain, had a coworker help me through it.  Not everything is back to normal yet (sidebar) and I’m trying to convince the Mrs. that we should change our WordPress theme.  What do you think?   I really don’t think anyone’s going to read this update so please make your presence known in the comments.
